The advantages of thin-layer underfloor heating
✅ Minimum installation height from 17 mm including screed.
✅ Installation on existing floor coverings.
✅ Sustainable system with little waste.
✅ Lightweight system with low additional loads.
✅ Shortened drying times thanks to special screed.
✅ Connection to existing heating systems.

Note 1:
Laying the bubble wrap
When installing a thin-layer underfloor heating system, thorough subfloor preparation is essential. The floor must be clean, dry, and level before the dimpled membrane is installed. The heating pipes are then inserted into the dimpled membrane to ensure even heat distribution and achieve efficient thin-layer underfloor heating . The system must be tested for leaks before pouring the screed.

Note 2:
Pouring the screed
When pouring the leveling compound for the thin-layer underfloor heating system, it is important to mix the screed thoroughly to achieve a uniform consistency. Mixing is best done with a pump to distribute the compound quickly and efficiently over the floor. Once evenly applied, the leveling compound creates a stable and smooth surface that optimally stores and transmits the heat from the underfloor heating.

Note 3:
Smoothing the screed
When deaerating and smoothing the screed, it is important to ensure that no air bubbles remain in the screed to ensure a uniform surface. After painting, the screed should be allowed to dry sufficiently, although drying times may vary depending on the conditions. For optimal results, the flooring should be installed promptly once the screed is completely dry and smooth to avoid delays and maximize the efficiency of the thin-layer underfloor heating system .

Anhydrite screed for thin-layer underfloor heating
The NerthusFlow leveling compound is ideal for all surfaces and installation conditions for thin-layer underfloor heating . It creates a completely level surface without cracks or unevenness, enabling flawless flooring installation. The calcium sulfate screed (CAF) was specially developed for thin-layer underfloor heating and ensures optimal heat conduction and a durable, stable foundation. We generally recommend using approximately 1.6 kg of Planogel Rheo per mm of pipe coverage per m².

Installation of thin-layer underfloor heating 🔧
Installing thin-layer underfloor heating requires careful preparation to ensure even and efficient heat distribution. First, the subfloor must be thoroughly cleaned and leveled to ensure the dimpled film can be securely laid. This film holds the heating pipes in the correct position and ensures that heat is evenly distributed throughout the room. Installing the pipes in the dimpled film is quick and easy, with pipe spacing chosen to achieve optimal heat output. This flexible installation allows the system to be easily retrofitted even in existing buildings without changing the entire floor structure.

Costs of a thin-layer underfloor heating system 💸
The cost of a thin-layer underfloor heating system varies depending on the system and accessories, but offers a cost-effective alternative to traditional heating systems. For example, a 10 m² set without screed costs around €220 💰. Planogel Rheo is recommended for the leveling compound, with a required quantity of 1.6 kg per mm of pipe cover (at 5 mm pipe cover) per m². For a 10 m² area with 5 mm pipe cover, you will therefore need around 8 kg of leveling compound per m², which equates to approximately 80 kg for 10 m². A 25 kg bag of Planogel Rheo costs €35 , which equates to approximately €112 for 80 kg. The total material cost for a thin-layer underfloor heating system is around €332 per 10 m², making it a cost-effective solution for even and energy-saving room heating. 💡💸

Frequently asked
Is the minimum installation height of 17 mm including screed?
Yes, the minimum installation height of the thin-layer underfloor heating system of 17 mm, including the screed, is achieved using the 2 mm thin Velcro fleece, a 10 mm pipe diameter, and a 5 mm pipe cover over the screed. This means that existing floors can be covered with a 1.7 cm underfloor heating system in the thin-layer system, including the screed that can be covered.
What is the thinnest underfloor heating?
The lowest installation height for underfloor heating is achieved with the thin-layer system from MC Therm, the NerthusFlow MC KLETT, with an installation height of approximately 17 mm including the heated screed and a 10 mm pipe diameter. The dimpled foil with a 12 mm pipe diameter allows for an installation height of 18 mm. These systems are therefore perfect for renovation projects where there is little space between the floor and ceiling.
On which surfaces can the thin-film system be installed?
The thin-layer system, available in the Noppe and MC KLETT versions, has a self-adhesive backing and can be installed on any type of flooring. The supporting substrate must be prepared according to the specifications of the grout manufacturer.
What are the disadvantages of the thin-film system?
The thin-film system is a renovation solution designed for very low installation heights. Since it is installed on existing floors and lacks thermal insulation properties, the thermal conductivity of the floor should be carefully examined. Especially over cold basements or garages, it's important to check whether the supporting subfloor has sufficient thermal insulation to allow the thin-film system to heat efficiently.
