How I calculate my material requirements

The material requirements for underfloor heating depend on three factors: room area in m², pipe spacing, and system structure. As a rule of thumb: For a pipe spacing of 10 cm, you need about 10 m of pipe per m²; for 15 cm, about 6.7 m/m²; and for 20 cm, about 5 m/m².

For heating circuit calculation: A heating circuit should not exceed a maximum pipe length of 80–100 m so that the pump can deliver water evenly through all rooms. For a 30 m² area with 10 cm pipe spacing (= 300 m of pipe), you will therefore need 3–4 heating circuits – and accordingly a heating circuit distributor with 3 or 4 outlets.

In addition to the pipe, also calculate: dimpled sheeting or insulation board (same area as the room, plus 5–10% waste), edge insulation strips (room perimeter in linear meters), and for the thin-layer system, CAF flow screed (Planogel Rheo) instead of conventional wet screed – a special calcium aluminate flow screed that only requires 5–15 mm above the pipe. How much pipe do I need per m² of underfloor heating?
This depends on the pipe spacing: With a 10 cm spacing, you need approx. 10 m of pipe per m², with 15 cm approx. 6.7 m/m², and with 20 cm approx. 5 m/m². For normally insulated living spaces, we recommend a pipe spacing of 10–15 cm. Our configurator automatically calculates the exact pipe length based on your room area.
How do I calculate the number of heating circuits?
A heating circuit should have a maximum pipe length of 80–100 m so that the pump can circulate the water evenly. Divide the total pipe length by 80 and round up – this gives you the minimum number of heating circuits and the required size of your heating manifold. Our configurator performs this calculation automatically.
Which underfloor heating system is suitable for old building renovations?
For old buildings with limited structural height, we recommend the thin-layer system (from 18 mm total height) or the hook-and-loop system with minimal installation height. Neither system requires conventional cement screed – instead, the thin-layer system uses CAF flow screed (Planogel Rheo), which only needs 5–15 mm above the pipe and cures significantly faster. For wooden beam ceilings, the dry construction system is the right choice.
What is the cost of underfloor heating material per m²?
