Brass distributors are cheaper (from €45), but they react to acidic or soft water in modern heating systems, leading to zinc leaching (dezincification). This results in deposits, clogged flow meters, and in the worst case, leaks after 8–12 years. Stainless steel (V4A/1.4401) is completely corrosion-resistant, water-pH-neutral, and lasts 25+ years if installed correctly. The additional cost of €30–40 for a 6-circuit distributor is amortized within the first 5 years.
As a rule of thumb, there is one heating circuit per room (or per room area exceeding 20 m²). An open living/dining area of 40 m² requires 2 circuits, a bathroom 1 circuit. Observe maximum circuit length: for 16×2 mm pipes, max. 80–100 m per circuit. The exact number of circuits can be found in the underfloor heating circuit plan from the screed layer. When in doubt, choose one extra circuit — unused connections are simply sealed with plugs.
